Potere is a very common Italian verb with irregular conjugations. Potere generally means "can," "may," or "to be able."

Potere = can, to be able (ability)

Puoi finire questo progetto.   You can finish this project.
Posso mangiare una pizza intera.   I can eat a whole pizza.

Potere = can (request)

Puoi cercare le mie chiavi?   Can you look for my keys?
Potete aprire la porta?   Can you open the door?

Potere = may (permission)

Possiamo partire alle 14.00?   May we leave at 2pm?
Posso aiutarvi?   May I help you?
