Meaning I love you (romantic)
Register normal
Pronunciation Italian sound files [tee ah moh]
IPA   [ti ‘a mo]

Usage notes: The regular –are Italian verb amare means "to love" in a romantic sense: you use it with someone you are in love with – such as your spouse or partner.

Variations

  • Ti amo, amore. – I love you, darling.
  • Ti amo molto. – I love you very much.

Responses

  • Anche io ti amo. / Anch’io ti amo. – I love you, too.

Ti amo is too intense for non-romantic relationships (family, friends) – to say "I love you" to them, use the expression ti voglio bene.
